It was a pleasure to attend the 80th Anniversary of VJ Day commemorations in Driffield this morning. There was a great turnout and well done to the local Scouts for their excellent standard bearing.
Today is personally poignant as my grandfather fought in Burma right up until the Japanese surrender. A few years ago I visited some of the beautifully maintained war graves in Myanmar (Burma) - a fitting memorial to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
