An absolute pleasure to speak to parents and young people at the Guide Dogs UK event in Parliament.
You may have seen I've been championing SEND provision locally and in Parliament, as our area has been the lowest-funded per pupil for children with SEND.
There are 35,000 children with a vision impairment in England, but new research by Guide Dogs UK found that far too often they are missing out on the vital extra specialist support and learning they need and deserve, including specialist 'habilitation' professionals like Eliza (pictured) who teach early movement, spatial awareness, mobility and independent living skills.
Only half have received support from a specialist vision impairment teacher, and less than a third received essential habilitation, so I'll be taking this up too with the Labour Government as part of their SEND reforms.
