A perfect morning to meet Helen and Luke from Groundwork to discuss the Hornsea Mere Nature Restoration Project.
Hornsea Mere is the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire and faces some considerable challenges, such as very low water levels, pollution from multiple sources and a number of invasive species.
I look forward to working with Helen, Luke and other local agencies to protect and enhance this beautiful lake.
Fun fact: the Mere was a Royal Naval Air Service base during the First World War. RNAS Hornsea Mere, later known as RAF Hornsea Mere, was home to 12 Short Type 184 seaplanes.
