Driffield has a close and historic military connection with Australia after so many Australian airmen served at RAF Driffield during the Second World War.
The young men of 466 and 462 Squadrons, with an average age of just 19, flew Halifax and Wellington bombers deep into enemy territory and many lost their lives. Their enduring legacy is the freedom we enjoy today.
It was therefore an honour to lay a wreath at the ANZAC Day Memorial Service in Driffield this weekend. It is always a special occasion and a privilege to meet the relatives of those came from the other side of the world to serve at the airbase during the Second World War.
