Even though our local area is the best holiday option in the UK, welcoming 5 million tourists a year, I know many East Yorkshire residents will still be heading abroad this summer.
Allowing countries to protect their borders is essential, but the European Union’s new Entry-Exit System (EES) has not been working as it is supposed to and is not being implemented efficiently, for example with many foreign airports having insufficient staff on duty.
This botched rollout has already been causing some huge delays and it is terrible that travellers are being treated this way.
So I asked the Minister to urge other countries to follow Greece’s lead and delay the implementation this summer until it is fit for purpose.
The Minister also confirmed the Home Office is very aware of the negative impact of delays at Dover on Bridlington’s fresh seafood exports into Europe, so I hope action by the Government follows.
