I remain firmly opposed to the closure of the Bridlington Care Unit and, as promised, I am continuing to fight to protect local rehabilitation capacity, including on BBC East Yorkshire.
While the local NHS Trust is under financial pressure, local health services must take into account Bridlington’s rapidly growing population, especially the 65+ demographic, and our town’s specific needs and to tackle the stark health inequalities in our town.
I firmly believe the Trust must make better use of Bridlington Hospital, protect local rehabilitation capacity and keep more care closer to home.
It was also especially moving to hear BBC Look North share Beryl Powell’s powerful testimony of what Bridlington Care Unit meant to her and her family when her partner, former Leeds United goalkeeper Roy Wood needed it.
Thank you to Beryl, to Bridlington Health Forum for their ongoing efforts, and to the thousands who have signed my petition so far. I will be presenting it to the Health Secretary in a few weeks’ time, so please do keep sharing: https://www.charliedewhirst.uk/bridhospital
