As part the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee’s inquiry into plant and animal health, we recently visited Germany’s animal disease centre, the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut, to see the world-leading work taking place there.
Our own disease centre at Weybridge, which we visited earlier in the year, needs significant investment to ensure it is capable of delivering research and responding to disease outbreaks. It was therefore very useful to compare the two facilities.
While we were in Germany, we also had the opportunity to meet with officials at the British Embassy in Berlin and spend a very productive afternoon with our equivalent committee in the Bundestag.
