British farmers already lead the way on animal welfare, so we should work with them and support them to go further.

In a debate in Westminster Hall on the petition to ban cages and crates for farmed animals, I called for an evidence-led approach that protects animal welfare, supports gradual industry transition, and avoids replicating past Labour mistakes.

It's important we work with farmers to protect our farming industry and food security - not against them.
